Diamond rivalry: Payback for WBHS

Senior Clint Spratlin recorded the win working five strong innings allowing just two hits as he kept the Wildcat batters off stride. Spratlin also posted eight strikeouts in front of a large and vocal home crowd at Charles W. Maddox Complex.

Offensively, WBHS had 10 hits although the runs came a little at a time with two in the second, one in the third, one in the fifth and two more in the sixth on a two-run homer by Max Pentecost which sealed the deal.

The workmanlike approach by his team has been something which has pleased Smith throughout the spring.

Prior to Friday’s contest, both team’s earned wins as WBHS defeated Rockdale County 9-1 and AHS held on against Cedar Shoals 7-6.

The Bulldoggs got a strong effort from Dustin Dunagan, one of many pitching options for Smith, who threw six innings with nine strikeouts. The one run allowed was unearned.

The win improved Dunagan to 5-1 while earned run average fell to 2.27, according to statistician Hal Miller.

Trace McDaniel also got some much-needed work and recorded three strikeouts.

McDaniel helped himself at the plate with two RBI.

Taylor Hinshaw also drove in two runs while Grayson Ivey had two doubles and an RBI.

Clint Spratlin contributed to the eight-run win with two hits and two RBI.

The AHS Wildcats took the season sweep against Cedar Shoals last Wednesday and earned a much-needed victory as Seth Maddox improved to 3-1.

Clint Ashe and Bubba McDaniel paced the offense.
