For the first time in many years — perhaps ever — the Jefferson High School boys’ tennis team defeated rival Athens Academy Tuesday afternoon.
The boys won 3-2 with the Number Two doubles clinching the winning match.
Also winning were Number One singles Zack Bost and Number Two singles Blair Buffington.

JHS boys netters defeat Athens Academy
Although the two teams are now in different divisions, for many years they competed in the same region. While rivals in other sports as well, the tennis rivalry has grown in recent years as many players from both teams train together and play USTA tournaments together.
In girls’ play, the JHS team wasn’t as lucky as the team lost to a strong Athens contingent 0-5.
Now Jefferson turns its attention to the region tournament, which begins Thursday at North Oconee.
