Special season shaping up for Lady Doggs soccer

That necessary team chemistry had allowed the Lady Bulldoggs to earn an overall record of 7-2-1 going into this week with a 4-2 mark in region play. Four region matches remain including Apalachee this Friday as well as contests with Clarke Central, Madison County and Monroe Area.

“We will clinch a playoff spot if we can get through the next two region opponents,” Arms said.

Leading the way this spring for WBHS has been Rebekah Autry, who has scored 14 goals with six assists. Clara Tapplin has added five goals and an assist while Ashley Phan had netted three goals.

“Rebekah is doing such a fantastic job of scoring,” her coach said. “And her play and leadership on and off the field really inspires our players to do their best.”

In addition, Arms praised the play of Georgia Stepp and Bethaney Murphy who both do “a solid job of keeping opponents off the board.”

“Sarah Booth is also a hard worker at two different positions on the soccer field for us,” Arms said.

Goalkeeper Jessica Maynard has also played a vital role for the team with 36 saves going into this week’s action. Maynard has also blanked three opponents this spring.

Taylor West, Jessie McWhorter, Elizabeth Mattison and Savannah Brock have also been key elements to the Lady Bulldoggs’ winning ways in 2010.

Arms earned his 100th career coaching win last week.
