AHS wins two state weightlifting titles

“Our kids competed extremely hard,” Davis said. “The competition is continuing to grow. There were more kids at state this year than ever before.”

AHS won the all-classification title by 22 points. It was the team’s third consecutive state championship in its classification and fourth in the past five seasons. It was the first all-around state title for the weightlifting Wildcats as the team has previously finished as high as second place.

Helping AHS execel were:

•140 and below: James Vang, first place; Cody Boyle, fourth place and Rocksha Audies, fifth place;

•151-160: Alex Camp, first place;

•171-180: Jon Lee, third place;

•181-190: Dennis Pritchard, first place;

•240 and above: John Brown, fourth place.

Davis used the weightlifting competitions as a way to reward his players for their dedication during offseason work.

“It’s important to us,” the coach said. “The players believe in it. We tell them we are strong enough to compete against anyone we play. This gives us something to focus on during the offseason. It can be a long time from the last game of the season to spring practice.”

Davis said the players will now concentrate on spring practice.
