Last week was a history-making one for the Jackson County Panthers golf team.
They set a new school record during last Wednesday’s match at Double Oaks against East Jackson and Banks County. The Panthers won, shooting a school record of 169, with Banks County shooting a 210, while East Jackson shot a 226.
The Panthers were led by freshman Thomas Whitley.
Things didn’t go quite as well the next day, as the Panthers fell to Apalachee 177-172.
The loss didn’t damper things for coach Warren Standridge.
“We are having a great time and our JV is winning as well,” Standridge said.
On Tuesday, Jackson County made some school history by defeating Commerce and Athens Academy.
With the win over CHS, Jackson County has beaten every team in the county for the first time ever in the same year.
“I am so proud of our men,” said coach Warren Standridge.
Jackson County won by shooting a 182 to Commerce’s 185 and Athens Academy’s 185.
The team was led by Jared Scott and Brent VanFleet, who both shot a 44.
The Jackson County girls also came away with a win, shooting a 106 to Athens Academy’s 112 and Commerce’s 125.
Beth Bates led Jackson County, shooting a 51. Jessica Stevens shot a 55.
