Mark it down as another strong week for the Jefferson golf teams.
Last Thursday, Jefferson traveled to Double Oaks Golf Course in Commerce to face Commerce and Athens Christian.
The boys came away with a victory, shooting a 180 to Commerce’s 183 and Athens Christian’s 226.
Individually, Patrick Hilton led the Dragons by shooting a 43. Michael Baker shot a 44. Cutler Finch shot a 46. Austin Rowland shot a 47.
“We are very pleased with the play of senior Michael Baker and Cutler Finch along with sophomore Patrick Hilton,” said coach Tom Parker. “They have consistently played well for Jefferson in the past couple weeks. We look forward to working hard over the next month as we prepare for the region tournament in April.”
For the girls, it was Jefferson coming away with the win, shooting a 101 to Commerce’s 130.
Hanna Chapman led the Lady Dragons by shooting a 49. Brooke Whelchel shot a 52.
“The girls seem to be warming up with the weather,” Parker said. “Sophomore Hanna Chapman and senior Brooke Whelchel continue to provide a steady round of golf each time out. Freshman Anna Alexander continues to impress us with her rapid development along with sophomore Paige Pate and Junior Kara Perry. The girls will have to continue to lower their scores as they also set their eyes on the April region tournament.”
On Tuesday, the Jefferson golf teams played host to Madison County and Oglethorpe County at Traditions.
The boys came away with the victory, shooting a 179 to Oglethorpe’s 179 and Madison County’s 199.
Michael Baker led Jefferson, shooting a 46. Patrick Hilton shot a 48. Nick Stowe shot a 48. Josh Flowers shot a 49.
The win improves the boys’ record to 6-4.
The girls came up short, however, as they shot a 109 to Madison County’s 98.
Brooke Whelchel led the girls, shooting a 53. Hanna Chapman shot a 56.
The girls are now 3-2 on the season.
