The Madison County High School boys’ tennis team continues to run the 8-AAAA North subregion, walloping three more divisional foes this past week as its moves closer to another title.
The Red Raiders, who won the subregion championship last year, now have a 7-0 record in 8-AAAA North play. Madison County will try to move to 8-0 with a match today (Thursday) at Habersham Central.
The Red Raiders picked up their most recent subregion victory Friday with a 5-0 blanking of Apalachee.
“The boys continue to roll,” coach Keith Strickland said. “They are focused and have their sights set on the North subregion championship and the no. 1 seed for our half of the draw.”
Prior to beating Apalachee, the Red Raiders had no trouble disposing of Cedar Shoals, 5-0, last Thursday (March 18).
Madison County won each position in straight sets.
Strickland praised the play of no. 2 singles player, Jeffrey Branson, who won his match 7-5, 6-2.
“Jeffrey Branson continues to improve with every match,” he said. “He’s always had the desire and drive and this season he’s added focus and determination.”
Before that, Madison County beat Clarke Central 4-1. The no. 3 boys’ singles match was suspended due to weather and eventually forfeited by Clarke Central. The Red Raiders had already won the no. 2 singles position and both doubles positions when action was halted.
