The Jefferson Dragons continued to roll on through region play last week, picking up two wins over Union County.
Up next is another double-header, this time coming at Dawson County against the Tigers on Friday.
The Tigers enter play this week 3-1 in the region and 5-3 overall.
First pitch in game one is scheduled for 5 p.m.
Union County
The Dragons traveled to Union County Friday to face the Panthers in a double header.
Game one began with a scoreless first inning, and remained that way through the top of the second. Union County got on the board first, getting a runner across in the bottom of the second to go up 1-0.
Jefferson responded by getting their first run on the board in the top of the third to tie the game 1-1.
The game would remain tied through the bottom of the third and through the fourth inning. The Dragons moved ahead by putting two runners across in the top of the fifth to take a 3-1 advantage. The
Panthers scored one run in the bottom of the fifth to move to within one.
The Panthers tried to mount a comeback, but neither team would score through the last two innings, giving Jefferson the 3-2 victory.
Jamie Sexton recorded the win, giving up six hits and two runs while striking out seven in seven innings.
Lucas Redd went 1-3 at the plate with two RBIs. Jake Fields went 1-1 with an RBI.
Game Two
Things didn’t start out as well for the Dragons in game two against the Panthers.
Union County came out with a vengeance, putting two runs on the board in the bottom of the first and adding two more in the bottom of the second to make it 4-0. After a quiet third and fourth, the
Dragons broke loose in the top of the fifth, scoring six runs to take a 6-2 lead. The Panthers answered in the bottom of the inning, putting two more runs across to tie the game 6-6.
It would remain tied through the sixth inning, but in the top of the seventh, the Dragons scored again to take a one run lead. Union County couldn’t respond in the bottom of the inning, giving the Dragons a 7-6 win.
Jake Fields recorded the win, giving up just two hits and striking out seven in three innings on the mound.
Jason Demos led at the plate, going 2-4 with three RBIs. Lucas Redd went 2-2. Jamie Sexton went 1-4 with two RBIs.
Oglethorpe Co.
On Tuesday, the Dragons traveled to Lexington to face the Patriots of Oglethorpe County.
The Dragons took control from the start, putting three runners across in the top of the first inning. The Patriots answered by putting two runs of their own on the board in the bottom of the inning.
Jefferson then proceeded to put one run across in the top of the second, third, and fourth, while keeping Oglethorpe from scoring in each of those innings.
After Jefferson put their seventh run across in the top of the fifth, the Patriots managed to add one more to their tally in the bottom of the inning.
Jefferson would keep Oglethorpe from scoring the rest of the night, and added one more run to their total in the top of the seventh to come away with an 8-3 victory.
