Lady Doggs excel on tennis court

“We are halfway through the season and yet we have so much more to prove,” Lundy said. “With all of the rainouts, we are having to move other matches around and we are even looking at the possibility of three matches in a week. We have a good team this year. I know we will go further and do better than the past couple of seasons.”

The lone region setback came last week against Madison County (4-1). The No. 1 doubles team of senior Quinn Edgar and junior Jessie Speight earned the win for the Lady Doggs and are undefeated this spring.

Freshman Sunshyne Moua had been playing No. 1 singles for WBHS and is exceling despite facing the higher level of competition she faces being in that position, her coach said.

“I am looking forward to seeing her improve drastically this season as well as over the next couple of years,” Lundy said of the freshman.

Anna Schmitz, an exchange student from Germany, is also having a strong season at the No. 2 singles spot.

Schmitz battled her Madison County opponent to three sets falling just shy of a victory.

Recently, Schmitz and Moua switched spots with Kaitlynn Gordon now at No. 3 singles. Senior Miranda Yancey is a solid force on the No. 2 doubles team, Lundy said, having teamed with both senior Lauren Spiler and junior Gordon. Yancey will also work with Spiler in doubles play.

“Besides Madison County, Habersham is going to be a tough match for us but I know we can handle it,” Lundy said.
