The Madison County girls’ soccer team earned its first win and hopes more are on the way in the near future.
The Lady Raiders (1-5-1) blanked Elbert County 2-0 last Thursday (March 12), before losing to Loganville 5-0 on Tuesday.
Renee Ellisor and Kayla Reid — who was called up from the junior varsity due replace an injured midfielder — supplied the goals against Elbert County.
Rebecca Smith had an assist on the first score and Brittany Wood assisted on the second. Both Smith and Wood received “Raider of the Game” honors.
Goalkeepers Morgan Pierce and Samantha Jones combined for the shutout.
Coach Molly McCarty had mixed feelings about her first victory.
“We put together an attack, and this was a relief,” McCarty said. “However, I do not think we played to our potential.”
In the loss to Loganville five nights later, Madison County trailed just 1-0 for the first 24 minutes of the game before the Lady Red Devils scored three goals in a span of 12 minutes.
McCarty noted that her team played better in the second half, allowing one goal.
Pierce, who is still not 100 percent healthy, collected 11 saves.
McCarty said her team was much more aggressive in the second half.
“We did give their defense some pressure but just couldn’t put up an attack with shots,” McCarty said.
JUNIOR VARSITY: Madison County High School’s junior varsity girls beat Apalachee 2-0 recently.
Emily Pace scored both goals, dribbling through the defense for both shots. Goalie Christina Hart recorded the shutout. “Raiders of the Game” were Julia Garcia, Pace and Macy Rutledge.
NOTE: Friday night is recreation department and alumni night for the Madison County High School soccer programs.
