Cortney Boggs led Madison County to a 92-128 victory over North Oconee Monday with a 41 and possibly recorded a historic round in the process.
Coach Doug Kesler said Boggs’ 41 is one of the best scores in school history for girls’ golf, if not the best.
“I’d have to check, but I think that 41 may be the best score we’ve ever had over nine holes,” Kesler said.
Kesler said Boggs had a really good day with her driver in shooting the 41.
“She was just really consistent the whole day … I don’t think she missed a fairway all day,” Kesler said.
Rounding out the scoring were Kelsey Hochstetler and Emily Mann who each carded a 51 in the match played at Sunrise Golf Course. Katie Jane Phillips shot a 57, but her score didn’t count.
Boggs shot a 44 the next day at Lane Creek as Madison County again defeated North Oconee, 91-126.
Hochstetler added a 47. Mann (50) and Phillips (55) both played but their scores didn’t count.
“We played pretty good,” Kesler said. “Still, we’re giving away a lot of shots on the putting greens. We’re three-putting and even four-putting some greens. We’re driving the ball well.”
Once the team’s putts start to fall, “we’ll be in really good shape,” Kesler said.
Madison County’s 91 is its lowest score so far this year as the team continues to try to break 90.
Kesler said the program has never fired a round in the 80s on nine holes.
