Boys' soccer: Red Raiders get back into win column, then lose

Myles Chasteen and Forrest Gaskin both scored last Thursday (March 11) to lead Madison County (2-5, 0-5) to 2-1 victory over Elbert County. The Red Raiders then lost 3-0 Tuesday at Loganville in region play.

“I was pleased that we won the game against Elbert, but we did not play up to our ability,” coach Trevor Mangan said. “I think we came in a little too confident, and it showed in the first half.”

Specifically, Mangan said the team didn’t play well as a unit against the Blue Devils, “losing our shape and not working together to get (scoring) chances.”

Still, Chasteen and Gaskin were able to come through.

Chasteen scored in the first half, while Gaskin provided the Red Raiders’ second goal by finishing some good combination play through the midfield in the second half.

Against Loganville five nights later, Mangan said his team came out flat during the first 10 minutes, then missed some scoring opportunities later in the first half.

“We played better in the second half, but didn’t get any good scoring chances,” Mangan said.

Madison County — which played Wednesday against Hart County but results weren’t available at press time — continues 8-AAAA play Friday night at home against Clarke Central (4-2, 1-1).
