Diamond Doggs rebound with region win

Taylor Keinat pitched a gem working all seven innings throwing just 80 pitches while striking out seven. The win improved WBHS to 8-1 overall and 2-1 in Region 8-AAAA.

“To take control of the game like Taylor did makes a difference,” Smith said. “We know we can always count on him. His pitching and some great defensive plays helped hold Rockdale in check. We scored just enough runs to stay safely in front.”

Shortstop Dylan Ivey and first baseman Taylor Hinshaw both made strong defensive plays in the top of the third to help give Keinat the support he needed.
“After Monday’s game we had a heart-to-heart meeting,” Smith said. “We wanted to build off that first loss. In some ways, it might have been the best thing to happen to us. In the long run, it may turn out to be a positive.”

Hinshaw had a two-run homer in the bottom of the first and WBHS added another run in the second on an RBI double by Kevin Wolf.

The final run came in the bottom of the fourth when Ivey reached on a fielder’s choice although the Bulldoggs did leave the bases loaded in the inning.

WBHS travels to Cedar Shoals Friday for another Region 8-AAAA contest.
