Jackson County defeats Archer

The Jackson County soccer teams started off their week on a wet note.

On Thursday, both boys and girls matches at Oglethorpe County were cancelled. The matches will not be rescheduled.

The teams next hit the field on Monday at home against Stephens County in area 8-AAA play.

It wasn’t the night that the boys had hoped for, as the Panthers fell to the Indians 5-0.

Things fared a little better for the Lady Panthers. After being down 4-1 at one point in the second half, they scored three goals in a seven-minute stretch to tie the game. Stephens retook the lead 5-4, but the

Lady Panthers were able to tie the score and send it into overtime.

In the end, Stephens came away with the win, 9-7 in penalty kicks. Mary Collin scored two goals on the night, as did Katie Rodriquez. Janette Gee, Dana Burzo and Sydney Baird scored one each.

On Tuesday, Jackson County played host to Archer. For the girls, it was a return to winning form, as they came from behind to win 2-1.

The boys recorded their sixth straight loss, however, falling to Archer 1-0.
