Tigers Secure #1 Seed

The threat of weather delayed Commerce over the weekend, but the wait was worth it as the boys earned the top seed in the region tournament by clipping Athens Christian Monday night in a 49-46 nail-biter to close out the regular season.

The boys were fighting for the top position after Lakeview slipped past Commerce last Thursday, 60-48.

The Tigers led the first half, but Athens Christian managed to keep the score within reach. At the break, Commerce led by five, 28-23.

Athens Christian rallied in the third quarter and led 40-38 after three quarters, but the Tigers turned on the heat and outscored Athens Christian 11-6 in the final minutes to secure the top region seed.

Commerce’s attention now turns towards the region tournament later this week.

The Tigers return to the court on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. at Athens Academy to face the winner of the eight seed versus ninth seed game.

Tallulah Falls is locked in as the ninth seed, while the eighth seed team was determined on Tuesday night between Towns County and Prince Avenue.

At press time, the victor for the eighth seed was undetermined.
