Salem eliminates Wildcats in 8-AAAA tourney

After two days of delays, the Apalachee High School and Salem High School boys basketball team were finally able to meet in an opening-round contest of the Region 8-AAAA tournament Monday night.

The Seminoles ended a disappointing season for the Wildcats with a 62-44 win in a game that was close until well in the second half.

DeVaugn Kilgore and Quincy Gibson both scored 15 points to lead coach Kevin Morris’ team Monday night but a 9-0 run in the third quarter proved to help be the difference for Salem, who was playing in its home gym.

The Wildcats entered the tournament as the No. 6 seed. With the win, Salem moved to within one victory of the state tournament.

The game was originally scheduled for Friday but was delayed until Monday because of weather conditions which moved into the area late last week.
