Tigers Set For Final Regular Season Games

Commerce’s basketball Tigers remain on top of the region after sandwiching only their second region loss between two wins last week.

Commerce boys defeated Lakeview Academy on Tuesday before falling to Athens Academy on Friday. The Tigers shook off the loss to win the regular season’s final home game on Saturday against Prince Avenue.

Coming up this week for the team are the final three games of the regular season, which will determine seeding for the region tournament.

On Tuesday, Commerce faced Towns County. Results were unavailable at press time.

On Thursday, Lakeview will host the Tigers in a rescheduled game from January. Tip-off is at 6:30 p.m. Lakeview is currently third in 8-A behind and Athens Christian.

Commerce faces Athens Christian for the second time of the season this Friday. A 62-57 win in January over Athens Christian came in the middle of the Tigers’ eight-game win streak. The game begins at 8:30 p.m.

Lakeview
In an extremely well-played game for the Tigers, Commerce defeated Lakeview last Tuesday 70-37 and secured the Tigers’ 10th region win.

Athens Academy
Cold Tiger shooting gave an opportunity to Athens Academy last Friday, who handed Commerce its second region loss of the season, 51-44. It was only the sixth loss of the season for the Tigers. Complete individual scoring was unavailable at press time.

Prince Avenue
On Saturday Commerce honored the seniors and then added its 16th victory, 72-44 over Prince Avenue.

“We closed out the regular season undefeated at home,” said coach Chad Bridges. “I am very proud of this team and the seniors that have provided us with great leadership this season.”
