CHS Wrestlers Hope To Qualify All

Last week, Commerce took a breather.

“The break came at a good time because we were battling some sickness and injuries last week,” said Love. “Hopefully, we will all be healthy this weekend. Our guys have worked hard this year and have had a great season. We just need to make sure we wrestle to our capabilities this weekend and qualify as many as we can to the State Tournament next weekend.”

Only the top four wrestlers per weight class qualify for the state tournament, and coach Love and the mat Tigers have a simple goal: qualify all 14 Commerce grapplers.

“Obviously, some guys will have a tougher road than others,” Love said, “We just need to make sure we stay healthy and work hard this week in preparation.”

Commerce has several wrestlers who should be favored, including Casey Drinkard, Addison Davis, Jon Cash, Nick Arostegui, Terrence Martin, Tyler Austin and Josh Streetman.

Love is also counting on the rest of the team – Jacob Harrison, Kris Hart, Josh Westmoreland, Trea Edwards, Cole Ledford, Zach Harmon and Serguio Rojas – to make good showings at Social Circle.

Commerce is in the East Sectional division, Area 2 of single A schools. Commerce will compete against a field of grapplers from 20 other schools, including Athens Christian, Pace Academy and Wesleyan.
