Elbert County
The Lady Panthers started their week out with a trip to Elbert County to face the Lady Blue Devils last Tuesday.
Things got off to a good start for Jackson County, as they outscored Elbert by three points in the first quarter to take a 5-2 lead. But the Lady Blue Devils came back strong in the second quarter, scoring 24 points while holding the Lady Panthers to 11, giving Elbert County a 26-16 advantage at the half.
Both teams stayed close in scoring in the third quarter, with Elbert County adding 11 points to their tally while the Lady Panthers scored nine. By the end of the quarter, Elbert held a 37-25 lead. The Lady Blue Devils would pull away a little more in the fourth, outscoring Jackson County 13-10 to take the 50-35 victory.
“I was very disappointed in the effort as a whole,” said coach Chad Pittman. “I had people come in and play really hard that I was really pleased with. But some of the people that should stand out for us did not.”
Victoria Fontana led in scoring for the Lady Panthers with eight points. Sierra Roncadori scored seven on the night.
“(Roncadori) has played well in the last week or two,” Pittman said. “It’s good to see positive things coming from her. She’s really worked hard on her game and so forth. I’m very happy that good things are starting to happen for her.”
Oconee County
The Lady Panthers traveled to Oconee County Friday hoping to get back on track and snap a four-game losing streak.

They continued to control the game over the course of the next eight minutes, allowing the Warriors only nine points while they added another 16 to their tally to take a 32-20 lead into the second.
The only real bump in the road for Jackson County came in the third quarter, when it seemed like someone put a lid on the basket. The Lady Panthers got several good shots, but couldn’t seem to get them to drop. That gave Oconee County the chance to score 13 points. A at one point took, the Lady Warriors took the lead, 33-32. Jackson County maintained their composure, and scored two baskets in the last 45 seconds to retake the lead, 36-33.
The Lady Panthers finally got their shots to start dropping again in the fourth quarter, putting 15 points on the board while holding Oconee to 10, giving Jackson County a much needed 51-43 victory.
Bree Drew led the Lady Panthers in scoring Friday with 17 points. Ashley Skelton scored 14. Victoria Fontana scored 12. Katie Rodriguez scored seven.
