WBHS enters postseason hoping for more

Sokol saw his team put together an impressive team performance Friday in a 67-47 victory against visiting Habersham Central. Five players scored in double figures as WBHS used an effective balanced scoring attack paced by D.J. Butler’s 17 points. Trent Demeritte added 14 points followed by Alonzo Nelson-Ododa with 12 and Jamia Davis with 11.

Quay Flanagan made his prescence known from beyond the 3-point line converting on four attempts for all 12 of his points.

The game was close early as WBHS held an 18-14 lead after the first quarter. A 17-9 second quarter by the Bulldoggs began to give Sokol’s squad some breathing room going into the second half. WBHS would outscore Habersham Central in each quarter Friday night.

The winning ways continued the following night for the Bulldoggs as they recorded a season sweep against Apalachee with a 56-43 win. Nelson-Ododa scored 23 points and had nine boards while Butler finished with 10 points.

AHS coach Kevin Morris said lack of points continues to plague his team this season.

“I can’t be very discouraged,” he said. “We did a lot of things good defensively (against Winder-Barrow.) One of their strengths is offensive rebounds and we battled them in that area. We had several players to come in and do well.”
