Lady Tigers Add First Region Win

The Commerce Lady Tigers picked up their first region win of the season last week by defeating Tallulah Falls 53-29 in a turnaround from an earlier meeting this season.

Over the past week, Commerce has been measuring itself against past performances as the team meets region opponents for the second go-round.

With four games left in the regular season, Commerce plays its final home game Saturday against Prince Avenue after playing Athens Academy on the road Friday. Tip-off on Friday night is at 7:00; Game time Saturday at home is set for 6:00 p.m.

On Tuesday, Commerce was at Lakeview facing the Lady Lions. Results from Tuesday’s game were unavailable at press time.

Tallulah Falls
A strong defensive effort and a good offense set Commerce up with a 33-9 lead at the half, which was enough to put the game out of reach for Tallulah Falls.

Coach Eddie McCurley described the game as a “good time” for the Lady Tigers, saying that it was one of the best offensive games the team has played this season.

Making a comeback after an early-season injury, Jaz Grier led the scoring with 12 points and Brittany Beauchamp and Jessie Flint scored 11 apiece.

“This win came at a good time for us,” said McCurley. “The girls have been putting in a lot of effort and for them to take a win away from it, it couldn’t have come at a better time.”
