CHS Grapplers Notch 3 Wins

“I am really proud of how the guys responded after a disappointing finish at the State Duals,” Love said. “We had a really impressive week last week. I could not be prouder of their performances last week.”

With a field of mostly quad-A schools, including the 2010 State Dual champion from AAAA, Loganville; Commerce won the tournament 30 points over Eastside. Dacula placed third.

Individual placers for the Tigers included first-place finishes for Nick Arostegui (152 lbs.), Josh Streetman (189) and Serguio Rojas (285). Streetman and Rojas were seeded second in their weight classes, while Arostegui was seeded first.

Terrence Martin (160) finished second after losing by two points to the number-two-ranked wrestler in AAAAA.

Taking third place finishes were Addison Davis (140) and Tyler Austin (171). Austin lost a one-point match to the eventual champ in his division. Jon Cash (145) placed fourth and Casey Drinkard (135) came in fifth.

“We are getting better,” said Love. “I feel like if we keep improving on some things, that we will finish the year in the mix at the state tournament.”

Commerce has only two more scheduled matches before the Area tournament on Feb. 12-13, which will be followed by the state tournament Feb. 19-20.

Coming up for the Tigers is the Toombs County Tournament this weekend, followed by a tri-dual at Riverside with Lumpkin County and Flowery Branch on Feb. 2.
