Lanier National Speedway will play host this weekend to the 2010 Speedfest Late Model event, being held Saturday and Sunday January 30 and 31.

Speedfest is the year’s first big short-track stock car event attracting drivers from all over the country. This event has attracted some of NASCAR’s biggest stars over the years. The event, which was originally held at Lakeland Speedway in Florida, moved to Lanier in 2009.

The event is made up of two days of racing with qualifying and a 75-lap open-wheeled modified race on Saturday and two big races on Sunday. Sunday’s races will include the Lanier Pro Late Models along with the CRA Super Late Models. There will also be a practice held on Friday with gates opening at 12:30 p.m.

Sprint Cup Driver David Stremme is scheduled to compete in the event. Also committing to race is Steven Wallace, the son of former NASCAR champion Rusty Wallace.

Gates open at 9 a.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday with the last chance race beginning at 1:30 p.m. For more information go to www.lanierspeedway.com or call 770-967-8600.
