The Madison County High School wrestling team has two regular season tournaments remaining — this weekend’s East Metro at Walnut Grove and the Jan. 30 Patriot Classic at Oglethorpe County — before the Feb. 5-6 region tournament at Cedar Shoals.
Meanwhile, the team had the weekend off before returning to the mat this past Tuesday in a dual meet against Hart County. Results were not available at press time.
Before that, Madison County split a pair of dual matches last Tuesday (Jan. 12), moving its record to 14-11 on the year.
The Red Raiders beat East Jackson 54-20 but lost to Jackson County 41-39.
Seven wrestlers won both their matches: Max Nash (119-lb.), Colton Phillips (130-lb.), Isaac Ruiz (145-lb.), Kyle Bates (152-lb.), Tanner Johnson (171-lb.), Kyle Gordon (189-lb.) and Matt Dove (285-lb.).
Madison County now has just over two weeks remaining to prepare for the Region 8-AAAA tournament.
Last year, six Red Raiders wrestlers advanced out of region to the state sectionals.
