Third quarter hurts Lady Wildcats

Cedar Shoals led 13-10 after the first quarter and 25-23 at halftime. The game was tied at 19 as late as the 3:16 mark of the second quarter and AHS led in the period after Ryan Burke and Porshia Cleveland scored back-to-back baskets.

The third quarter was the difference, however.

While a 3-pointer and basket from Saboyce Shelton pulled the Lady Cats to within eight at the end of the quarter, the big run by Cedar Shoals proved too much to overcome for AHS.

“I was looking for the right combination to defend and score,” Parks said. “Ryan played excellent defense. Being a freshman, it’s tough for her to be in there going toe-to-toe with some of the players she is facing.”

The AHS coach noted this was a particularly rough stretch for his team with games against Madison County, Cedar Shoals and Clarke Central. The Lady Wildcats will host Clarke Central Friday.

Cleveland led AHS with 15 points Tuesday while Kiarra Sanford added 10.

As a team, the Lady Wildcats were 6-of-8 from the foul line.
