The Apalachee High School baseball team has been downright offensive in its first two games of 2012.

To be more clear, the Diamond Cats have been offensive in terms of having plenty of firepower at the plate. In two games last week against Central Gwinnett, AHS combined for 28 runs. It often takes a baseball team a few games before its bats come to life. The opposite has been true for the Wildcats.

“It’s nice to get two wins to start the season,” said Apalachee coach Mike Cavey. “Our batters have been doing a good job, We have three good opponents coming up so it will be interesting to see how we do and if we can keep it going.” [Full Story »] 

Perhaps Jim Stoudenmire’s comments about Matt Moore’s performance summed it up best.

“He looked like a million bucks,” the AHS coach said of his state championship wrestler. “He was on top of his game. I’m not sure anyone in the building Saturday could have beaten him in his weight class. The way he was wrestling, it would have been hard pressed for anyone to beat him.”

Moore was clearly the class of Class AAAA at 220 pounds Thursday through Saturday, and for most of the season for that matter. Moore steamrolled through any competition thrown in front of him and cruised to the state championship Saturday at the Gwinnett Arena. [Full Story »] 

Michael Parks is looking for a new challenge.

After directing the Apalachee High School Lady Wildcats basketball program for the past several years, Parks resigned Monday morning to pursue a future path in school administration. [Full Story »] 

Monday night’s Region 8-AAAA tournament quarterfinal matchup between Apalachee High School and Cedar Shoals had everything a fan could hope for.

The game had several lead changes. The game featured two teams doing everything they could to win. And, the game had a buzzer-beating 3-pointer which turned out to be the game-winner.

Unfortunately for the Wildcats, it was the Cedar Shoals Jaguars who connected on the 3-pointer to escape, literally, with a 71-70 win. [Full Story »] 

Samuel Ransom, Sam Allen, Cole Fragapane and Joe Allen will each compete at the state swim meet Friday at Georgia Tech.

Each Apalachee High School team member earned qualifying marks during the regular season to gain the chance to compete at state.

The Swim Cats will compete in a relay event after beating the state time of 1:41.5. Ransom, Sam Allen, Fragapane and Joe Allen will compete in the relay event. Joe Allen and Ransom also have qualified for state in the 100 breastroke. Joe Allen recorded a time of 1:08.33 recently while Ransom swam a 1:07.66, both under the state time of 1:08.5. [Full Story »]
