The 2011-2012 season has certainly been one of improvement for the Apalachee High School boys basketball team.
After posting just one victory for all of last season, the Wildcats enter the second portion of the subregion schedule with a 2-3 record. Coach Kevin Morris, like most coaches, is pleased by his team’s improvement, but would also like to see additional progress.

AHS swimmers eye state qualifying times
The Apalachee High School swim team had another meet full of improvements, coach Laura Rodas said.
“Every meet we’ve had this season, the majority of our swimmers have broken personal records,” the coach said. “With the season coming to an end, this gives us a lot of hope for next year’s team, and especially as new coaches this year, we really look forward to hitting the ground running. We still have a final shot at making state with our next meet at the University of Georgia on the 28th.”
Samuel Allen finished second in the 100 fly with a time of 1:00.72 (state qualifying is 58.0). Joe Allen and Sam Ransom came in second and third, respectively, in the 100 breast (state time 1:08.5). [Full Story »]

Wildcats win at buzzer against WBHS
As exciting as Friday’s subregion opening victory was, Apalachee High School boys basketball coach Kevin Morris will be the first to admit that win was simply the first step toward accomplishing something special in the subregion this season.
Cameron Blakely’s basket at the buzzer gave the Wildcats a 48-46 win against rival Winder-Barrow, but Morris does not want that win to be the high point of the season.
“We are in first place in the subregion right now,” Morris said. “I try to tell the players we have been preparing for this part of the season. We have been building toward this. You don’t want one game, regardless of who it is against, to define your season.” [Full Story »]
