After A 21-14 Loss To White Co., Eagles To Take On Oconee County

With just over three minutes left to play, it looked like the East Jackson Eagles might hang on to a one-point lead and pick up a season-opening win against White County.

But after first signaling the Eagles had recovered a muffed kick, the referees awarded possession to the White County Warriors, who scored the winning touchdown 90 seconds later to steal a 21-14 win. [Full Story »]

The Lady Tigers enter play this week looking to rebound from a rough outing in the Towns County Invitational that saw them go 1-3 on the weekend.

Commerce will host Social Circle in a region pairing on Thursday. The game was originally slated to be played at Social Circle, but a scheduling conflict moved it to Commerce instead. The first pitch is at 5:45.

The Lady Redskins are fresh off a loss to George Walton Academy. They currently stand 3-2 overall and 2-2 in the region. [Full Story »]

While he has been away from the coaching scene in Barrow County for 13 years, Phil Jones will always have strong ties locally.

The former Winder-Barrow High School head football coach and athletic director has been involved in the collegiate coaching ranks since leaving the local scene and his Shorter University Hawks will be part of a historic contest Thursday in the Georgia Dome. [Full Story »]

As disappointing as the outcome of last Friday night’s game was, Winder-Barrow High School coach David Wagner knows his team has to move on.

A 6-3 loss to Rockdale County, a team which advanced to the state semifinals a season ago, was made even tougher considering the Bulldoggs had a chance to win the game in the final seconds after blocking a punt. A 46-yard field goal which would have tied the game fell a couple of yards short and left WBHS literally inches away from perhaps a program changing win. [Full Story »]

Even with his team’s 35-7 win Friday night, coach Shane Davis sees plenty to work on for his Apalachee High School Wildcats before they return to the field Sept. 10.

“Hopefully, we can get in a little better shape,” Davis said Sunday night. “We are going to spend a lot of time running this week. Plus, Flowery Branch does so much on offense that we are going to need all the time we can get to prepare for them.” [Full Story »]
