Bulldoggs overwhelmed by Gladiators

Winder-Barrow High School’s varsity football team lost its fourth game of the season to the number two-ranked team in the state this past Friday.

Clarke Central High School, which advanced to the state championship game in 2009, was simply too much for the rebuilding Bulldoggs to handle as the Gladiators rolled to a 55-0 win.

Friday’s game also marked the third straight year that Clarke Central defeated the Bulldoggs while scoring at least 50 points. The Gladiator offense moved the ball with ease over the course of the game, scoring eight touchdowns and compiling 485 total yards. [Full Story »] 

Cheer Doggs finish first

This time, the Winder-Barrow High School competition cheerleaders were in top form.

The Cheer Doggs, coached by Jerri Hulsey, won the competition at East Jackson High School in Commerce Saturday edging Dacula High School by five points. [Full Story »]

WBHS cross country hosts tuneup meet

Winder-Barrow High School’s cross country teams hosted Apalachee and Washington-Wilkes last Thursday in a meet which served as a warm-up for later this season.

“It was more of an event to practice with our timing system,” WBHS coach Michael Lofton said. “We also wanted to allow our runners a chance to work on their times.” [Full Story »] 

WBHS runners battle tough course

Facing tough weather conditions and a tough course, the Winder-Barrow High School cross country runners did their best Saturday during their trip to Carrollton.

With 95 degree temperatures and high humidity coupled with the course used for the state meet as a backdrop, several WBHS runners actually excelled. [Full Story »] 

Lady Doggs seeing improvement

Things may be starting to come around for the Winder-Barrow High School fast-pitch softball team.

Coach Monty McClure said earlier this week his Lady Bulldoggs have been walking fewer batters, not making as many errors and starting to come around offensively.

WBHS scored 11 runs in a win against Rockdale County last week and eight in a victory against Heritage. The Lady Doggs also went 4-1 at a tournament hosted by Oconee County during the weekend.

Madison County produced enough big plays to hold off the Winder-Barrow High School football team in a 22-16 contest last Friday at W. Clair Harris Stadium.

The Bulldoggs outgained the Red Raiders overall, but a kickoff return for a touchdown as well as a 55-yard pass play help propel Madison County to its first win of 2010 while WBHS has to continue looking to break into the win column. [Full Story »]

The first thing one notices about Hogan Anderson is how much he looks like a football player.

While the outcomes of the first two games this season have not gone the way coach David Wagner would like, the first-year Bulldogg mentor knows it’s all part of the process.

While the scoreboard may not necessarily indicate it, the Winder-Barrow High School football team competed against Flowery Branch last Friday on the road.

The 28-0 final score left the Bulldoggs 0-2 during the early portion of the 2010 season, but coach David Wagner believes good times are ahead. [Full Story »]
