Bulldoggs take first steps in scrimmage

It was less than five minutes after his team’s preseason scrimmage against Dacula when first-year Winder-Barrow High School coach David Wagner made an assessment which summed up the evening aptly.

“It was a good first step,” Wagner said. “Sometimes the first step is the hardest. We did take that first step tonight, however.”

The Bulldoggs, despite somewhat of a shaky start, settled in against Class AAAAA Dacula Friday at W. Clair Harris Stadium. When all was said and done, the visiting Falcons had recorded a 27-21 victory. However, coaches will quickly tell you preseason scrimmages are about so much more than what the scoreboard says after the final buzzer.

The first stage of the David Wagner era at Winder-Barrow High School was witnessed Friday night at W. Clair Harris Stadium.

The Bulldoggs hosted Dacula in a preseason scrimmage falling 27-21 to the visiting Class AAAAA Falcons. The varsity squads played the first three quarters while the junior varsity closed things out in the fourth quarter. [Full Story »]

While things are heating up outside on the softball and football fields, the Madison County High School gym is also getting its share of action as the MCHS volleyball team starts its season.

After holding tryouts last week, head coach Kristen DeLay has her team set for this season and the Lady Raiders are ready to start action next Tuesday at West Hall.

Madison County will play two varsity only matches on Tuesday, the first against hosting team West Hall at 5 p.m. and the second against East Jackson at 6 p.m. The girls then have a few days off before getting into the regular Tuesday-Thursday schedule. [Full Story »]

Things are about to get a lot more exciting on Friday nights in Madison County. The Madison County High School Red Raiders are ready to retake the yard and kick off the 2010 season of high school football.

This week, the Red Raiders head over to Hart County for the first of two preseason scrimmages. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night.

Even with the scrimmage against Hart this week and the annual Red versus Gray scrimmage next Thursday, head coach Randell Owens and the team are focused on a bigger game – the opener against Flowery Branch. [Full Story »]

The countdown is almost over, only nine days separate the Banks County gridiron Leopards from the start of another season.

With the season opener taking place on the road Aug. 27, at Social Circle, fans who can’t make the drive can see the Leopards in action this week as the team host Franklin County in the preseason scrimmage. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 13.

Any bad luck associated with Friday the 13th will fall on the Franklin County Lions as the BCHS boys are primed to storm the field. [Full Story »]

This is the week Madison County softball fans have been waiting for – the start of the Lady Red Raiders’ season.

The girls swung into action on Wednesday, Aug. 11, in the first round of the Leadoff Classic played at the Madison County Recreation Department.

Madison County faced Morgan County, followed by a game against Elbert County. Not scheduled to play today, Thursday, in the classic, the Lady Red Raiders return to the diamond on Friday and Saturday to finish out the classic with two games each day.

The summer is finally over for the Lady Leopards.

Today, Wednesday, the Banks County softball team begins the 2010 season hosting Chestatee High School.
