Night Of Fire Lights Up Dragway

It was a hot night and a fast show at the Night of Fire at the Atlanta Dragway Saturday night.

In the Super Pro final, Tommy Motes of Loganville faced Mark Hancock of Commerce. Hancock got the handicap tree with a 5.11 dial-in against Motes’s 4.96 dial. Hancock’s .034 reaction time wasn’t good enough for Motes’s .025 launch, however. Hancock lost the double breakout with a 5.09 elapsed time at 134.60, while Motes made the better run in 4.95 seconds at 138.16 mph for the win. [Full Story »] 

12-Year-Old Boys Head To State

After a strong showing in last week’s tournament play, the Commerce Parks and Rec 12 year old boys’ All-Star baseball team will head to the state tournament this week.

The team qualified for the state tournament with a third-place finish in their tournament, going 5-2 at Flowery Branch. [Full Story »] 

Tigers Wrap Up Summer Baseball

The Commerce Tigers wrapped up summer baseball play this past weekend, taking part in the Jackson County Shootout tournament.

The tournament started out well for the Tigers, as they bested Oglethorpe County 9-3 on Thursday. They then fell to North Oconee on Friday, 11-1 in a game that saw only two Commerce varsity players take to the field. [Full Story »] 

MVP Spratlin excels for Team Georgia

Perhaps playing baseball in Oklahoma suits Clint Spratlin just fine.

The recent Winder-Barrow High School graduate helped Senior Team Georgia take the championship defeating Team Maryland 12-5 over the weekend in a game played at the University of Oklahoma. The win helped avenge an earlier loss to Maryland in the tournament. [Full Story »]
