While many students in Barrow County still have a few days of vacation left, the carefree days of summer break are pretty much over for football players at Winder-Barrow High School and Apalachee High School.
Players and coaches both enjoyed a week off during the Georgia High School Association’s “Dead Week,” a time in which no activity could take place but last Monday work resumed as far as summer conditioning goes. Local football players can be seen on the practice field working on offensive and defensive schemes as well as getting in pre-camp shape.
“It’s really straight football from now on,” first-year WBHS coach David Wagner said. “We are even less than a month from our preseason scrimmage. The summer is over for us. It’s time to go to work and start focusing on football. This is the way it has to be if you are going to compete.”
