Alexis Hall won the Region 8-AAAA long jump last week with a leap of 17’5” en route to scoring all 21 of Madison County’s points.

Lady Leopard netters finish at sweet 16

The Banks County lady netters played into the sweet 16 of the state playoffs.

Last Wednesday, the Lady Leopards faced Heard County in the first round of the state playoffs where the netters took a 4-1 victory and secured a spot inside the sweet 16.

During singles play, Kara Murphy defeated Heard County’s Blake Alford in clean 6-0;6-0 sweep. Number three singles, Carlie Ivey defeated Rebekah Tatum 6-1;6-2. At number two singles, Maria Enslen lost a tough fought match to Rebecca Heard 5-7;1-6.

The Jefferson boys track team came out on top of a tri-meet Tuesday with Jackson County and Commerce.

The Jackson County boys track team came home with a second place result from a tri-meet with Jefferson and Commerce at JHS Tuesday.

The Panthers scored 53 points to winner Jefferson’s 84.5.

Eagles To Close Season With Doubleheader

Entering the final stretch of the 2010 season, the East Jackson Eagles were hoping for a strong showing.

Instead, after a loss to Oconee and two to Riverside Military Academy last week, the Eagles will put the cap on a long season with a doubleheader Friday.

East Jackson (6-17 overall and 4-13 in the region) will wrap up the season with a home stand against the Union County Panthers. [Full Story »]

A win in the first round of state playoff action advanced the Lady Dragons netters to the second round of state playoff this week.

The Lady Dragons won 5-0 over Pike County. Bell Blakenship won 6-1, 6-0 at number one singles. Maggie Broome won 6-3, 6-1 at number two singles. Miranda McGarity won 6-1, 6-1 at number three singles. [Full Story »] 

Diamond Tigers Look For Final Win Over AC Eagles

There is only one regular season baseball game left for the Commerce diamond Tigers. Coach Steve Cotrell’s Tigers will face Athens Christian Friday on the road.

The final game of the regular season follows Tuesday night’s home closer against Social Circle.

While results were unavailable at press time, a win over Social Circle would secure for Commerce the number three seed for the postseason. [Full Story »]
