In preparing for Rockdale County, it’s the same song, different verse for Winder-Barrow High School football coach Ben Corley.

“Rockdale County is almost a repeat of every week in this region,” Corley said. “They have a lot of speed, can score on you and are just scary. They look as good as anyone we will play in the nature of athletes they have.”

Noting the Bulldogs are “well coached on defense,” Corley said his team will have to stay out of negative situations on offense. [Full Story »] 

As the 2009 season continues to progress and Apalachee’s undefeated streak remains intact, Wildcat head coach Shane Davis knows a bigger bullseye will appear on his team’s back.

Davis also knows while Loganville — this Friday’s opponent — has two losses, the coach says there is underlying factor in both of those games: turnovers.

The 2009 racing season came to an end this past weekend at Winder-Barrow Speedway.

Staff and officials at the track said they would like to thank all the drivers and fans for a great racing season.

Mark Chancey took his #20 racing machine to victory lane in the Street Class. Darrell Frady, Ronnie Poole and Jennifer Everett followed.

Through the years, fans of Winder-Barrow High School and Monroe Area have witnessed some classic battles on the football field.

There was the 1998 contest which came down to the final play with Winder-Barrow tackling a Monroe Area receiver inside the 10-yard line to preserve a victory.

There was the 2004 defensive struggle which the Bulldoggs won 3-0 on the strength of a second half field goal.

And now there was last Friday’s contest where points were anything but hard to come by as the WBHS team recorded its second victory of 2009 with a 48-41 win against the visiting Purple Hurricanes in a contest which resembled an old Arena League contest or perhaps a Canadian Football League game.
