Lady Dragons fall to Banks County

The Lady Dragons of Jefferson saw their season come to a close last week, as they lost the best two out of three to Banks County to put them out of region tournament play.

The Lady Dragons end the season with a 4-8 region record, and 9-12 overall for the year.

JCCHS ends season with loss to Eastside

The Lady Panthers volleyball team of Jackson County saw its season come to a close over the weekend, as they lost in the first round of region play.

On Saturday, the Lady Panthers were defeated by the Lady Eagles of Eastside 2-0, with set scores of 26-24 and 25-18.

Individual statistics and further information on the tournament were unavailable at press time.

Lady Dragons move to state playoffs on Saturday

The Jefferson Lady Dragons volleyball team moved into the post season with area tournament play last week, facing Athens Christian, North Oconee and Athens Academy.

State playoff action begins on Saturday, when the Lady Dragons face off against Hebron Christian.

Jefferson was the winner of the most recent match between the two schools back on Aug. 20. [Full Story »] 

Leopards take on the Dragons

A week off and a back to basics approach is what the Banks County Leopards are taking into this Friday’s game with region powerhouse Jefferson.

The Leopards have had a less than stellar season so far, as Banks sits 2-3 in region play; 2-4 overall. With four games left and the Dragons on deck for Friday night, Banks County has one shot left to hold onto its goal of returning to the postseason.

The Dragons remain undefeated this season in an effort to mirror last year’s performance that took Jefferson into the second round of the playoffs. Leopards’ coach Blair Armstrong did not mince words when he said that most people would favor Jefferson in Friday’s game. [Full Story »] 

6-0 Eagles Host Rabun Co.

After a week off, the undefeated East Jackson Eagles hope to pick up Friday night where they left off as they host the Rabun County Wildcats.

Rabun County comes to town off of an Oct. 2 loss to one of the other two undefeated teams in 8-AA, North Oconee.

The Wildcats are winless in region play so far this season, and are 1-5 overall for the year. The Eagles are 6-0. [Full Story »] 

Tigers Will Need Perfection At Wesleyan

Commerce’s success in region play will be challenged this week as the Tigers head to Norcross to face the number one team in the 8-A region, and defending state champions Wesleyan.

Wesleyan is undefeated.

Lady Panthers begin state playoff action

Post-season play got underway last week for the Jackson County Lady Panthers softball team, as they faced Morgan County, Oconee County, Stephens County and Elbert County to begin the road to state playoff action.

Last Monday, Jackson County traveled to Oconee County as the number two seed in the sub-region to face Morgan County in the first game of region playoffs. [Full Story »]

After the cancellation of a scheduled meet at Banks County, the Jackson County Panthers cross country teams made a late entry into a five-team meet at North Oconee, and turned in a good performance.

Brittany Aikens won for the girls with a 20:18, followed by a third place effort by freshman Sydney Baird, who ran a personal best time of 22:21.
