The Jackson County Lady Panthers are looking to put a couple more wins on the board this week after suffering losses to Apalachee and Morgan County.

Jackson County will next face Apalachee and Madison County at Apalachee on Thursday.

Jefferson hosts Tallulah Falls, Prince Ave. Thurs.

The Jefferson Lady Dragons volleyball team saw their winning streak snapped last week. After picking up wins against Eastside, East Jackson, Athens Christian and Prince Avenue, Jefferson fell last Thursday to North Oconee.

Next up for the Lady Dragons is their final home stand of the regular season, as they’ll host Prince Avenue and Tallulah Falls on Thursday. [Full Story »]

Winder-Barrow Speedway racer Perry Crowe, driver of the #9 Modified 4 Cylinder car, competed in the state championship race at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, Ala. this past weekend.

There were more than 350 cars just attempting to make the race in the nine classes they ran.

Even now, more than 20 years after I graduated from high school I still remember our biggest rival.

It didn’t matter the sport, whenever our two teams would meet there was a sense of anticipation that was hard to match. Probably the only way the intensity of the rivalry could have been cranked up any higher would have been if our schools somehow met for a state championship in some competition.

That never happened, but classic events on the football field, basketball court, baseball diamond and everything in between did take place.

Lady Leopards lead up to final game with three wins

A little bit of luck helped the Banks County Lady Leopards out last week as the girls took a 4-3 win over East Jackson on Thursday. But it’s not all luck as the Lady Leopards also added a 12-0 sweep over Rabun and a 9-0 sweep over Oglethorpe this week.

Banks County has one last region game on the schedule before the region tournament.

Coming up this Thursday, the Lady Leopards will finish out the regular season on the road at Walnut Grove facing the Walnut Grove Lady Warriors. This will be the first meeting between the schools and the Lady Warriors don’t appear to be any sort of pushovers. [Full Story »]

CHS Cross-Country Ladies Improve Times

Commerce’s cross-country runners showed improvement last week at Madison County in the Tigers’ second meet.

On the girls’ squad, Sierra Martinez and Kacee Cooper improved their run times. While the ladies didn’t have enough runners for a team score, Commerce finished 16th and 17th in a field of 29 runners. Martinez finished in 34.56 followed by Cooper at 34.57.

“They are improving,” said coach Mark Hale. “Both Sierra and Kacee dropped almost three minutes from their times the week before.”

For the boys, Commerce finished fourth overall with 118 points. Taking first place was East Jackson with 23 points followed by Jackson County with 69 points, and Madison County with 70. [Full Story »]

EJCHS Prepares For Postseason

The East Jackson Lady Eagles hope to start their postseason on a high note.

The Lady Eagles face a play-in match next Tuesday as the fifth seed from their side of the area for a chance to get into the area tournament. They will face either Tallulah Falls or Rabun County, depending on the outcome of games this week.

Last week didn’t give the Lady Eagles the boost they needed. After playing well the previous week, including a win against Gainesville, they lost to Jefferson and Eastside last Tuesday. [Full Story »]
