Just over a month separates the Banks County High School Leopards from another run at the state class AA football playoffs.

Building on the successes of last year’s season, coach Blair Armstrong has spent the summer encouraging and preparing the players to be ready to take the field through camps and summer programs.

One of the recent camps the Leopards attended sized up Banks County to 12 AAAAA, AAAA and AAA schools. At the defensive camp in Carrollton, Banks brought home two first places out of the four classes. [Full Story »] 

The Lady Leopards’ basketball team is coming off a busy summer schedule. The team wrapped up their summer activities June 27.

Among the activities the Lady Leopards participated in this summer were several one to four day camps at Hart County, Madison County, Jefferson, Jackson County and at Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC.

Coach Jerry King said that there were 15 players who participated in the camps, out of which five ladies had perfect attendance. [Full Story »] 

It was a Banks County-dominated series in Jefferson last week as the 9-10 All-Stars cruised through for the Class C state championship.

This year’s victory marks the third year running that the Banks team has won the Georgia Recreation and Park Association Mite girls’ softball championship.

BCPRD’s athletics coordinator Tommy Wilson said he thought the girls played excellently during the tournament and thanked the coaches of the all-star teams for their support.

Banks County’s Park and Rec 9-10 year old all-star teams have had a strong season this summer. Both teams made it through to the final tournaments for a chance to win state titles.

Coming up this Friday night in Jefferson, the 9-10 girls team will take on the District seven champs in the first round of the GRPA state tournament. First pitch is at 6 p.m. on the fields behind Jefferson High School.

Win or lose, the girls will play again at 8 p.m. Friday. The championship title will be determined in the final game on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The girls, won the District six title after climbing the bracket, defeating Union County in a 12-0 sweep, Towns County 15-4 and for the crown 11-2.
