Competing in what he terms “one of, if not the toughest” regions in the state, Winder-Barrow High School baseball coach Brian Smith was feeling pretty good Sunday night as he reflected on what his team has accomplished.

Monday’s 5-0 win against Heritage was big in several ways for the Winder-Barrow High School baseball team.

It not only put the Diamond Doggs a big step closer to the state playoffs, it also put coach Brian Smith’s team in position to possibly start thinking about more than just qualifying for the postseason. [Full Story »] 

Winder-Barrow High School baseball coach Brian Smith had hoped for some more offensive output from his team.

Perhaps it was the emotion of the moment playing against their cross county rival, but the Diamond Doggs put 17 runs on the board in three innings against Apalachee High School Friday afternoon. The basketball coaching search in Winder may not have generated as much publicity as the one up the road in Athens, but it was an important one just the same.

Winder-Barrow High School officials selected South Forsyth’s David Sokol as the new varsity boys basketball coach last week to replace Eli Connell. Sokol was officially approved by the Barrow County Board of Education following a three-hour work session March 31. He takes over a program which went 9-1 in subregion play during the regular season in 2008-09. [Full Story »]

Sokol was officially approved by the Barrow County Board of Education Tuesday night. He was the head coach of the Class AAAAA War Eagles this past season. South Forsyth competes in Region 7-AAAAA.
