he Jefferson Diamond Dragons got their season off to a good start Monday, as they picked up a victory over Riverside Military Academy.

The Dragons will next travel to Madison County on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

The Dragons came out strong from the start, putting two runs on the board in the first inning, then added another four to the total before the Eagles got their first runner across in the bottom of the second. [Full Story »] 

Lady Dragons' season ends with Union loss

It was not the ending that the Lady Dragons of Jefferson had hoped for.

Jefferson saw their region and state title hopes come to an end last Wednesday, as they were defeated by Union County 46-38 in the first round of the Region 8-AA tournament at North Oconee High School.

The teams had split their two previous meetings, with Jefferson squeaking out a one-point victory over the Lady Panthers back on Jan. 24. [Full Story »] 

Dragons’ season ends in first round

For the first time in at least 10 years, the Jefferson Dragons are not heading for the state tournament. In fact, they didn’t make it past the elimination round in the region tournament.

The Dragons saw their successful season, with 21 wins and four losses going into last Tuesday’s game, come to an end with a loss to the Union County Panthers, a team that had to play their way into the region tournament by beating Fannin County by one point on a last second shot the night before.

Jefferson coach Bolling DuBose said he knew going into Tuesday night’s game that it would be tough, as Union County matched up well all year against the Dragons. [Full Story »] 

Jefferson becomes 13 time Traditional State Champs

You can add another title to the already impressive list compiled over the years by the Jefferson Mat Dragons.

State title number 21. They added that win to their trophy case on Saturday as they took top honors in the AA State Tournament at the Gwinnett Arena.

Jefferson wracked up 225.5 points en route to the title. Second place Lovett scored 133 points. [Full Story »]

Jefferson looking for another historic title win

The Mat Dragons of Jefferson took one step closer to the record books this weekend, as they qualified 13 of 14 wrestlers for state competition this weekend at the Gwinnett Arena.

Five Dragons brought home sectionals titles from the weekend, including Cason Thurmond, who took the title in the 103 lb. class; Cutler Finch took first in the 125 lb. class; Cam Thurmond took top honors in the 135 lb. class; Jay Fowler won the title in the 152 lb. class; and Zac Crosby took first in the 171 lb. class. The Lady Dragons of Jefferson were determined to end their regular season on a high note. After losing in a close game to Banks County last Tuesday, the Lady Dragons picked up a win in their final regular season game against a strong North Oconee team on Friday.

Now all thoughts turn to the post-season, and to region tournament action.

Three Dragons sign on National Signing Day

Three Jefferson seniors made their choices last week as to what schools they plan to play for after graduation.

Zach Crosby, Tab Martin and Patrick Allen were joined by friends and family members for the signings during National Signing Day.

JHS defeats East Jackson at home

The Lady Dragons of Jefferson are riding a four game winning streak towards the post season, as they picked up region wins against Dawson County, Oglethorpe County and East Jackson last week, giving them a 5-1 region record, and placing them solidly in second in the subregion.

The Lady Dragons will wrap up their regular season with a trip to face the subregion leader, North Oconee, on Friday. The undefeated Lady Titans have been the only team to beat Jefferson in region play this season.

Jefferson hosts sectionals tournament beginning Friday

The Jefferson Mat Dragons took another step towards adding another state title to their already impressive resume last weekend by taking top honors in the area tournament, and by qualifying all 14 wrestlers for this weekend’s sectionals tournament in Jefferson.

Jefferson scored 293 points to take the top spot, followed by Banks County with 201.50 and East Jackson with 168.50. [Full Story »]
