he Jefferson Diamond Dragons got their season off to a good start Monday, as they picked up a victory over Riverside Military Academy.

The Dragons will next travel to Madison County on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

The Dragons came out strong from the start, putting two runs on the board in the first inning, then added another four to the total before the Eagles got their first runner across in the bottom of the second. [Full Story »]

Lady Dragons' season ends with Union loss

It was not the ending that the Lady Dragons of Jefferson had hoped for.

Jefferson saw their region and state title hopes come to an end last Wednesday, as they were defeated by Union County 46-38 in the first round of the Region 8-AA tournament at North Oconee High School.

The teams had split their two previous meetings, with Jefferson squeaking out a one-point victory over the Lady Panthers back on Jan. 24. [Full Story »] 

JCCHS’ season ends with loss to Elbert Co.

A loss to a strong Elbert County team last Tuesday ended the season for the Jackson County Panthers.

The Panthers wrapped up their season with a 3-17 record.

It was the third meeting between the two teams of the season. Elbert won both previous meetings, winning 70-40 back on Dec. 9, and 58-44 back on January 27. [Full Story »]

The Jackson County Mat Panthers had one champion and a fifth place result at Saturday’s AAA State Tournament at the Gwinnett Arena.

Ryan Howe brought home the state championship in the 189 lb. class, while Izzy Carillo-Garcia placed fifth in the 135 lb. class.

Jackson County amassed 44 points during the tournament, trailing overall winner Eastside High, Lafayette, Heritage, Woodward Academy, West Laurens, White County, West Forsyth, Carrollton, Lakeview Fort Oglethorpe, Lumpkin County, Pickens County and Ridgeland. [Full Story »] 

Leopards open season with a win

It may not feel like spring yet, but to the Banks County Diamond Leopards it is close enough.

The Leopards’ season is off on the right track as Banks won its preseason game 14-3 over Johnson last Friday. Monday, Banks was on the road for the first official game of the season, taking on the Franklin County Lions. The AAA Lions were not much of a threat as the Leopards took an 8-1 victory.

Joe Lord returns to coach the Leopards this season and will be looking to build off the success of last year.
