The Jefferson Lady Dragons volleyball team wrapped up their regular season this week, and will be one of two schools to play host to the area tournament, along with East Jackson, starting Thursday.

The Lady Dragons were scheduled to host Apalachee and Monroe Area Tuesday night.

Apalachee came away with a 0-2 victory over Jefferson in sets of 10-25 and 21-25. [Full Story »]

Lady Leopards fall just short of state tourney

When the Region 8-AA tournament was over for the Banks County High School softball team, the Lady Leopards were one game shy of state play.

To be more exact, BCHS was two runs away.

The Lady Leopards fell to Dawson County 3-1 in a game they needed to win to guarantee themselves a spot at the next level. BCHS entered the contest off a 18-1 thrashing of Oglethorpe County, but could not manage to get past the Lady Tigers. [Full Story »]

The Jackson County Lady Panthers’ slow pitch softball team wrapped up area tournament play Thursday, coming away with a second place finish in the tournament as they prepare for state play this weekend.

State tournament play opens up Friday in Marietta, as the Lady Panthers face McEarchern at 4:45 p.m.

Commerce Hosting Undefeated Wesleyan On Friday

The Commerce Tigers proved Friday night why many schools have a history of fearing them.

Commerce hit hard and often against Athens Christian Friday night, dominating the game in a 49-20 region win. The win improves the Tigers to 1-1 in region play and 2-4 overall. Commerce only has a few days to celebrate the homecoming victory before preparing to host the Wesleyan Wolves, at 8 p.m. this Friday

Commerce will look for its second region win while Wesleyan works to defend an undefeated region record. Commerce won the last match-up in 2001, 24-15. [Full Story »] 

Lady Tigers Face Wesleyan Friday

The Commerce Lady Tigers softball team has worked hard all season to make it to Friday’s sectional game.

The Lady Tigers will face Wesleyan at 6 p.m. in the Class A North Sectional at Heritage Pointe, Dalton. If the ladies advance, they will face either Gordon Lee or Walker at 8 p.m.

Commerce is ranked in the top ten in Georgia for class A and finished the regular season at 10-12 overall.

While the ladies are preparing for Friday’s game, they are also congratulating two of their teammates. Brooklynn Stinchomb and CJ Wilkes were named to All-Region for 8-A. Honorable mentions went to Bekah Andrews and Brittney Beauchamp.
