High school football has been described as the All-American sport.

From the heartland of America to all four corners of our great nation, the gridiron sport at this level is indeed something to behold. There is simply something special about Friday night at the local stadium.

In Homer — and at Banks County High School — football is a family tradition for the Bowens. Senior Justin Bowen is a standout player for the Leopards. During the past four years, Justin has grown into one of the top members of the BCHS team. [Full Story »] 

Commerce Prepares For Final Region Game

After picking up a pair of region victories last week, the Commerce Lady Tigers will focus on winning their last three regular-season games, one of which is a region contest.

The Tigers were scheduled to play Banks County today (Wednesday) at home, host AAA Johnson on Thursday, then travel to Hebron Christian next Tuesday for the last game of the season.

While Banks and Johnson are not region games, coach Pam Canup said the ladies still regard both as very important, since Commerce is now looking for placement at sectionals. Both games will be at home and start at 5 p.m. [Full Story »]

Tigers To Face Spartans In Region Contest

Commerce dropped another game in the 2008 season, this time to Lincoln County, 35-6, leaving the Tigers with a 1-3 record going into this Friday’s region game against undefeated Athens Academy.

Athens Academy has defeated Commerce in five of the last seven match-ups. The last time the Tigers defeated the Spartans was in 2005, 14-6. That is not to say Commerce has rolled over just yet. In the 2006 game, Commerce fell by one point 10-9 and by three points in 2007, 27-24.

Friday night offers Commerce a chance to jump back into the fire as the Tigers travel to Athens to face the Spartans at 7:30 p.m. [Full Story »]
