It was not the way the Tigers nation had hoped to see their season open. After losing against in-county rival Jefferson for the first time in 12 years last season, Commerce was looking for revenge on Friday night.
But what they got instead was a second year of defeat at the hands of the Dragons, as Jefferson won 35-14.

The Commerce Tiger Cross Country team continues to prepare for its upcoming season. The Tigers will open Sept. 9 at East Jackson Comprehensive High School.
Commerce cross country coach Mark Hale said he has about 10 total runners between his boys and the girls teams.
His top runners for the boys so far have been sophomore Ethan Thomas, junior Juan Toribio and sophomore Zach Scannell. Senior Hannah Duckett has been the top runner for the girls in practice so far. [Full Story »]
The East Jackson Lady Eagles got the 2008 softball season off to a good start last week with back-to-back wins against Clarke Central, followed by a strong run in the Hawk/Bulldog Invitational at Peachtree Ridge.

East Jackson came out of the box strong, handing losses to the Gladiators of Clark Central, first in a game on Aug. 15 that went only three innings, with the Lady Eagles coming away with a 20-0 win. he Lady Tigers of Commerce are still working to find their footing early in the season.
They have lost four games, including a match up with Jefferson last Tuesday, but did record a win against Towns County over the weekend as they continue to fine-tune their program before next week’s region opener.
