Commerce wrestlers started the new year with a second-place finish at the Amicalola Classic.
The Tigers were among 20 teams attending the annual New Year’s wrestling meet at Dawson County. The tough tournament brackets featured several ranked AA, AAA and AAAA teams, according to coach Kendall Love.
“I was proud of the guys for getting second in a tough tournament,” said Love. “However, I do not think we wrestled to our potential. We lost some individual matches that I felt like we should have won.”

Mat Tigers Ring In New Year As Runner-Up
The Tigers had one champion, Terrence Martin (160 lbs.) followed by several second and third-place finishes. Finishing as the runners-up in their classes were Casey Drinkard (135), Jon Cash (145) and Nick Arostegui (152).
Third-place finishes were Tyler Austin (171), Josh Streetman (189) and Serguio Rojas (285). Addison Davis (140) placed fourth.
The Area Duals are coming up this weekend.
“We have got to make sure we win the matches we are supposed to win,” Love said.
The Tigers hosted Banks County and Oglethorpe on Tuesday. Results from Tuesday’s match were unavailable at press time.
Up next for Commerce is the Area Duals at Eagles Landing Christian Academy, Friday and Saturday. The Area Duals begin Friday at 5:00 p.m. and resume on Saturday at 9:00 a.m.
