Mill Creek High School rising freshman Rachael Dudley won five state championships at last week’s Georgia Long Course Age Group State Championships in Savannah.
Dudley took first place in the 400m free (4:26.99), 800 meter free (9:07.71), 1500 meter free (17:18.96), 100 meter butterfly (1:03.18), and 200 meter butterfly (2:20.56). The championship times earned Dudley top 16 national rankings in the 100 meter butterfly, 400 meter freestyle and 800 meter freestyle. She qualified for junior national times with the 100 meter butterfly, 1500 meter freestyle and 200 meter butterfly. Dudley also qualified for the Georgia Team, which will be competing in the Southern Zone Championship at Georgia Tech this week.
In addition, Rachael competed in the Gwinnett County Swim League Championships on July 20 and set a new county record in the 50 yard butterfly with her time of 26.97. Dudley broke the record previously held by Olympian Amanda Weir. Dudley also placed first in the 50-yard backstroke (28.76) and 100 yard individual medley (1:01.10).
At the county championships, Dudley swam as part of the Chateau Elan 13-14 year old girls’ relay team which won both the medley and freestyle relays. Dudley also won the 13-14 year old High Point Award for her performance as part of the Chateau Elan Swim Team.
