Despite the near 100-degree weather, the Atlanta Region Sports Car Club (SCCA) of America had a good turnout for the July 18-20 event at Road Atlanta.
According to Competition Director Butch Kummer, over 200 cars participated in the three day competition.
“We introduced SCCA road racing to a whole new audience with the Mazda Club "ZoomFest" activities in the infield,” Kummer said. “We continue to grow the
Performance driving experience (PDX) program and we raised over $3000 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation.”
The SCCA also implemented a new qualifying format using 8-lap races that were generally well-received by the racers and appreciated by spectators, according to Kummer.
“Good racing, good times, good fun," he said.
The Atlanta Region SCCA will co-host its next event with the Alabama Region SCCA at the Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham on Labor Day weekend.
