Bulldoggs advance to Deep South final

The winning ways continued for the Winder-Barrow High School boys basketball Monday and Tuesday.

The Bulldoggs defeated Sprayberry 62-55 in an opening-round game of the Deep South Classic hosted by Brookwood High School. Alonzo Nelson-Odado scored a game-high 22 points to pace coach David Skokol’s team.
Jamias Davis finished with 13 points while Trent Demeritte added 12 for WBHS.

The Bulldoggs continued to advance Tuesday with a 58-46 victory against Mill Creek, the defending Deep South champion. Nelson-Odado provided the inside game for WBHS while Quay Flanagan, D.J. Butler and Demeritte combined for 41 of the team’s points.

Demeritte finished with a game-high 16 points.

Sokol’s team is scheduled to play South Cobb in the tournament championship today.

The Winder-Barrow High School Lady Bulldoggs saw their three-game winning streak snapped with a 65-60 setback to Peachtree Ridge in a first-round Deep South game.

Mimi Hill scored 24 points to lead the Lady Doggs while Lauren Hamel added 13 points and seven boards. Brittany Witt added 10 points.

The Lady Doggs also fell to Brookwood 50-39 Tuesday. Hill led WBHS with 12 points.

The WBHS varsity basketball teams were set to continue play in the tournament through Wednesday before resuming regular season action. The Lady Bulldoggs are scheduled to face Grayson in their tournament final.
