On the home front we have Apalachee
The Wildcats made us proud
And the baseball Winder Bulldoggs
Excited their fans in the crowd
The Dawgs lost their seventh mascot
And almost that many games
So Coach Richt had to fire some coaches
Cause Dawg fans kept fanning the flames
And Tech, surprising most experts
Won the ACC
Their bowl game should be a battle
Just between you and me
March Madness was won by the Tar Heels
They conquered all of their foes
They defeated the Michigan State Spartans
While led by young Tyler Hansbrough
Baseball continued to have scandals
This one involving A Rod
But it didn’t keep the World Series
From going to his Yankee squad
We’ve heard little this year from TO
And isn’t that a relief
Now, if Chad “Ocho Cinco” would just do the same
I would not have any beef
We certainly can’t forget Tiger
No matter how hard we might try
We’ve all learned a Cadillac is hard to drive
When a nine-iron has hit your eye
And, oh, those hapless Falcons
Are proving again that it’s true
Consecutive winning seasons for them
Is very difficult to do
Let’s not forget about NASCAR
Jimmie did it again
As much as this guy gets the checkered flag
Are you sure he isn’t a twin
So, as 2010 approaches
These things I’d like to see
They’d make all the games much better
For fans like you and me
Let’s cut out all the show boating
The dances, the taunting, the boasts
Just go out and do what you’re paid to do
That’s what fans want to see the most
And athletes please remember
The young ones look up to you
You’re setting some bad examples so,
Watch what you say and do
May the next twelve months be filled
With excitement and cheer
Merry Christmas to you
Have a wonderful year
Thanks for reading my column. I hope you have enjoyed them and I hope some have given you reason to pause and remember past times. From Cindy and I, we wish you a very blessed Christmas and the fondest wishes for a great 2010.
