Commerce grapplers enter into the holiday break with their heads held high after winning the Red Raider Duals this past Saturday in Danielsville.
Winning the tournament, coupled with a win over Franklin County on Friday, gives Commerce a push going into the break. The Tigers return to the mats on New Year’s Day, competing in the Amicalola Classic at Dawson County. The tournament runs Jan. 1 through Jan. 2.
Wrestling coach Kendall Love said the Tiger grapplers are still improving.
“We are still getting better as a team,” said Love. “Our younger guys are starting to realize the level they have to compete at to be successful at the varsity level. How much success we have this year will depend on how our younger guys develop throughout the season.”
Love also noted that the experienced wrestlers are continuing to work hard and make progress.
Last Friday, Commerce traveled to Franklin County and brought home a 60-12 victory. It was just the first of several victories over the weekend that culminated in Commerce taking the top honor on Saturday in the Red Raider Duals.
The Tiger wrestling team made short work out of its competitors defeating Westside (69-12), Stephens County (84-0) and Chestatee (56-12) before the final round.
Commerce faced Athens Christian for the championship and won the title 68-12.
Commerce’s JV squad also won a match against a mix of JV teams, 83-0.
