Leopards set for weekend tourney

Banks County Leopards are still looking for their first win of the season.

Banks fell to rival Commerce last Friday night to leave the Leopards 0-4.

This week, the boys head to Demorest at the third annual Community Bank & Trust Holiday Classic hosted at Piedmont College. Banks plays Hart County in the opening round on Friday. Tip-off is at 6:30 p.m.

The winner advances to play the best of Habersham Central or North Forsyth on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. Also in the tournament is Oglethorpe, Stephens, White and Commerce.

Banks County fell to rival Commerce last week in a heated game.

The Leopards and Tigers looked evenly matched in the first quarter as Banks took an early lead 16-10 by the end of the period.

The wheels came off in the second quarter, as Commerce went on an unchallenged 22 point run and out scored the Leopards 27-to-3.

At the half, Banks was down 37-19.

The third quarter offered a chance for the Leopards to turn it around, but Commerce held Banks to nine while scoring 14 points.

In the final eight minutes, Banks finally started working on cutting the Tiger’s lead, but fell short as Commerce won 69-43.

Banks will face Commerce again in January as the heated rivalry between the teams continues.
